Conformed or Transformed Part 1

Conformed or Transformed

You may not be a successful person in this world if you are a student of the Bible.

If you are a student of the Bible and a student of culture, you can see the culture through a biblical lense.

Romans 8 29.

We are preddsitened to be conformed to the image of his son.

Conformity va transformed.

Conformed or transformed.

Romans 12 1-2..

Romans 12:1-2 ESV — I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Mercy deep awareness of and sympathy for another's suffering.

Condemnation

Justification seen as righteous in God's eyes.

Santification being shaped to be like Jesus.

Glorification when we get to heaven.

JFK ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

Counter culture

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV — Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Luke 9:23-24 ESV — And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

Deny myself

Cultural Christianity is a lie.

When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.

Liberty and liberty in Jesus.

1 Corinthians 6:12 ESV — “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.

Carry your cross daily.  Was a final act of submission to the Roman govt.  A final act of submission.

If your going to follow me, you need to put yourself aside and submit to me.

The culture says we shouldn't submit. We should be our own person.

God and the Bible says we should submit.

James 4:4-7 ESV — You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Psalm 42:1 ESV — To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.
As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.

When our life and the culture has mastered us, it has cross the line.

We shouldn't be letting culture master us, rather we should be mastering our relationship with Jesus.

Deny yourself.

Take up your cross and submit to him.

Follow him. Be on a tenacious persuit.
