Conformed or Transformed part 2

Romans 12:1-2 ESV — I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

The word conformed means leaning into us.  To be pushed on.

Deny yourself.

Take up your cross and submit to him.

It takes no effort by us to be conformed by the culture.

It takes a lot of effort to be transformed by Jesus.

The world has shaped:

My expectations of what Jesus should do for me.

John 16:33 ESV — I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

If suffering means that God doesn't love me, then God hated the apostle Paul.

God doesn't hate us, because many of his apostles suffered.

Acts 9:15-16 ESV — But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”

Challenge

Choose to see your difficulties as God shaping you, not pushing or holding out on you.

  1. The world has shaped My expectations of what Jesus should do for me.
  2. The world has shaped my inability to quiet my inner self.
  3. The world has shaped a pace of life that I can't maintain.
  4. The world has shaped me to focus on me over we.
  5. The world has shaped my over connection to virtual friends and less connection in real relationships.
  6. The world has shaped my perspective on men and women.

1 Kings 19:11-12 ESV — And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.

Challenge

Take the first 45 minutes of the day and the last 45 minutes of the day without your phone.

We have a pace of life we cannot maintain.

Challenge

Discern ways you can cut back.

Basic general courtesy is gone from the world.

Matthew 5:43-44 ESV — “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.

Challenge

Lay down your life for someone this week.  Maybe someone you don't like or who is unkind to you.

The world is shaping us to disconnect from others by texting and not calling.

Connect to each other.

Challenge

Determine to deepend friendships.

The women's movement was a cry to be valued.  The unbiblical view of women being subservient to men.  Now the new movement is for women to be leaders and men to be subservient.

We have a generation of women who are increasing leading and men are increasingly subservient.

We have a crisis of identity in our culture today.

We should cherish and pursue women.

Challenge

Men are to reject passivity and initiate with care and women are to empower those around them.

Mother's bring life and men bring direction.
